Homeless Crisis
The Wheeler administration has failed to adequately address Bremerton's growing homelessness crisis.
Mayor Wheeler has failed to lead on Homelessness
His only proposal failed. He wanted to build a temporary shelter on City land, but it was opposed by homeless advocates and rejected by city council.
The Mayor has refused to build restrooms for people living on the street, denying dignity and cleanliness to our neighbors.
The constant sweeps of our neighbors living on the street just push people further out into our neighborhoods and away from services.
Mayor Wheeler is dragging his feet on other solutions. From the Kitsap Sun: “[Wheeler] also expressed skepticism toward the Sheridan Road proposal, which does not yet have zoning approval or a budget approved for the city's anticipated support, which he notably told the Kitsap Sun earlier that he had not been involved in at all. Coughlin had been attending planning meetings with the group of agencies working on the plan.”
